EthStorage 2023 Yearly Report

Introduction

Hello! Since its inception in 2022, EthStorage has achieved remarkable success in a short period. In particular, 2023 witnessed increased community engagement, invitations to various global events, and recognition from major organizations, establishing EthStorage’s presence in the market. In this report, we will summarize the key achievements of the year and outline future prospects.

1. The web3:// URL (ERC-4804), the first web access protocol for ETH, has been approved by EIP editors and finalized.

The web3:// URL marks the pioneering web access protocol for ETH, gaining approval from EIP editors and achieving finalization. The decentralized nature of web3:// (http://web3url.io) serves as a decentralized http://, allowing users direct access to rich web content on the EVM, including pages, images, and songs! We anticipate that web3:// will unlock a myriad of new applications, ranging from dynamic NFTs, on-chain music NFTs, personal websites, hostless wallet links like Hexlink, to decentralized platforms resembling Dropbox (BlockEdenHQ) or even GitHub (git3).

2. EthStorage received the 2nd Grant from the Ethereum Foundation

EthStorage received the 2nd Grant from the Ethereum Foundation for research on “Proof of Storage on L2 Dynamic Datasets with an Ethereum L1 Contract.” The team received the 1st research grant from the Ethereum Foundation for data availability research before.

The 2nd grant falls under the “Cryptography and Zero-knowledge proofs” category in the Layer 2 Community Grants, acknowledging EthStorage’s contributions.

3. EthStorage secured 1st place at the EDCON 2023 Super Demo

EthStorage won the 1st place at the EDCON 2023 Super Demo. On the main stage, the team showcased EthStorage, a storage rollup built on top of Ethereum.

EDCON is renowned as one of the largest gatherings of the Ethereum and blockchain communities, attracting industry-leading participants. The Super Demo received an overwhelming number of applications, with only 47 projects selected to pitch in the first round. After intense competition, only four projects advanced to the finals, and EthStorage emerged as the 1st place winner.

4. Introduction of ‘zkGo: Compiling L2 Geth into ZK Compatible Wasm’

EthStorage introduced ‘zkGo: Compiling L2 Geth into ZK Compatible Wasm,’ a groundbreaking ZK Fraud Proof proposal aimed at addressing current challenges. This collaborative effort involves partnerships with Hyper Oracle and Delphinus Lab. For detailed information, refer to the article.

5. EthStorage has successfully secured $7 million in a seed round, achieving a notable $100 million valuation

The $7 million fundraise was spearheaded by the crypto investment fund dao5, as announced in a tweet by EthStorage last Thursday. Other contributors to the round included SevenX Ventures, Foresight Ventures, Sky9 Capital, Gate Ventures, and Galxe.

6. Website Renewal

The new version of EthStorage website was revealed. Please visit http://EthStorage.io to see the brand new design! 7. EthStorage’s Github is Open-Sourced

After being open-sourced, everyone can now view the implementation details of the EthStorage node on our Github. We welcome all our users to run the testnet, and we also invite them to participate in our upgraded version on the Ethereum Cancun testnet in the future.

8. Active Participation and Engagements in Global Events

EthStorage was the Cypher sponsor of EthDenver 2023, and Qi Zhou, the Founder of EthStorage, took center stage at EthDenver by introducing the web3:// access protocol for EVM and EthStorage. You can watch the talks here: web3:// access protocol EthStorage

EthStorage alsoco-hosted the ‘Web3 Infra & Middleware’ side event and joined ‘R3al World’ as a speaker. EthDenver Recap article can be found here.

EthStorage actively participated in DevConnect too, engaging in a variety of activities throughout the event.

Collaborating with Udaya, Mindfulness Capital, and Hyper Oracle, EthStorage hosted the ‘Innovation Nexus: ZK, DA, and On-chain AI in Sync’ Web3 infra conference during DevConnect week. This event gathered industry leaders to explore the latest developments in Web3, with a focus on ZK, DA, and On-chain AI. Recap article: Link

EthStorage team also joined many other global events as speakers and panels including: Stanford Blockchain Week, Token 2049, EthToronto, EthWomen, Bay Area Web3 Summit, Stanford CEO Web3 Infra panel, Hong Kong Web3 Festival — Foresight2023HK, Eth Hong Kong, Modular Blockchain event by OpenBuild, Shanghai Blockchain Week and a lot more.

As we conclude this annual report, we reflect on a year marked by significant achievements, fruitful collaborations, and impactful contributions to the blockchain and Web3 communities.
